MADISON, Wis. -- With a career-best score and a tie for third at the 54-hole Badger Invitational, UW's Robert Jacobsen earned his first Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor announced today by the Big Ten Conference.
The senior from Racine, Wis., carded a career-best 1-under par 215 (74-73-68) in windy conditions to tie for third in the Badgers' home event Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
He had the best 18-hole score of the field in the final-round with a personal best 68 at the 7,259-yard, par-72 University Ridge Golf Course.
Jacobsen has played in both of UW's tournaments this fall and is leading the team with a 74.67 average. His previous best finish at a tournament and best 54-hole score was a tie for 23rd at the 2011 Weibring Invitational where he shot a 77-71-76--224. He missed the remainder of his sophomore season due to injury.
He is UW's first conference weekly honoree since Anthony Aicher (Sept. 28, 2011).
The Badgers continue their schedule Oct. 6-8 at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate. Hosted by Marquette University, the 54-hole event will be held at the future site of the U.S. Open, Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wis.
