MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s golf team tees off the 2013-14 season this weekend, when the Badgers travel to Zionsville, Ind., for the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.
University of Indiana plays host to the event, which will be held Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at Wolf Run Golf Club. UW will compete against 14 teams at the 7,155-yard, Par 71 course.
The event begins Saturday with a shotgun start and 36 holes will be played. The final 18 holes will be played Sunday.
2013 Field: Auburn, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, IPFW, IUPUI, Kentucky, Miami (OH), Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo, Wisconsin
University of Illinois was crowned tournament champion last fall after shooting a 3-over par 289-278-288--855 and will look to defend its title this weekend. The No. 20-ranked Illini have won the tournament the last three times it has been held, in 2012, 2010 and 2009.
Indiana placed second last season, finishing just three strokes behind Illinois with a 6-over par 284-284-290--858.
This fall, the Badgers return five members with varsity experience and three freshman join the squad.
Seniors Zach Balit, John Gullberg and Robert Jacobsen will be competing in the opening-season competition for the Badgers.
Letterwinners Balit, Gullberg and Jacobsen closed out the 2013 spring season for UW at the 2013 Big Ten Championships on April 24-26, where the Badgers placed 12th. UW carded a 72-hole score of 304-308-304-316--1232, which was 17 storkes better than in 2012.
In addition to the trio, experienced sophomore Matt Ross will compete for the Badgers along with freshman Ben Skogen, who will be making his collegiate tournament debut.
