MADISON, Wis. -- A former Badger won the 94th Wisconsin State at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls, three other Badgers all tied for 17th and one finished tied for 30th when the 72-hole tournament concluded Aug. 20.
Tied for 17th were senior Rob Jacobsen from Racine, Wis., at 8-over par 73-75-73-75--296; junior Matt Ross from Hartland, Wis., with 79-70-73-74--296; and UW assistant coach Robbie Ziegler had76-75-72-71--296 on the tough par 72 course.
Freshman Eddie Wajda III from Brookfield, Wis., tied for 30th with 71-78-76-75--300. Sophomore Ben Skogen from Onalaska, Wis., did not make the 36-hole cut after shooting an 11-over 76-79--155. The cut was the top 60 players with ties and was at 10-over 153.
Former Badger Ryan Helminen, a PGA pro at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenah, Wis., was in second place for the first three rounds of the tournament but played the final 9 of the last round at 3-under including an eagle on the par 5 17th hole to win over another former Badger with with a 9-under 68-69-75-67--279. Helminen was the top club pro in the recent PGA tournament where he just missed the cut by one stroke at 2-over par.
Daniel Woltman surged into the lead on the last day but finished a stroke shy of the title with an 8-under 71-71-68-70--280. Former Badger Jordan Elsen was a stroke back with 71-69-75-66--278.
The three-day stroke play event featured 156 of the top golfers from throughout the State of Wisconsin.
