Watson ties for 15th at Illinois State Amateur

MARION, Ill. -- UW newcomer Jack Watson had a personal best 66 in the first round and finished tied for 15th overall in the Illinois State Amateur Championship held Aug. 6-9 at The Links at Kokopelli in Marion, Ill. The Lincolnshire, Ill., native finished with a 4-over par 66-67-73-78--284.

The tournament was won by Quinn Prchal of Glenview, Ill., with an 8-under 65-72066-69--272.

Watson was second after the first round with his 66, which tied for one of the second lowest rounds in the tournament. The champion shot a 65 the first day for the low round.

Badger head coach Michael Burcin said of Watson, "We are proud of Jack and his play this week. He and Thomas O'Bryan (UW sophomore) have really excelled on the regional and national levels this summer. We are looking forward to watching Jack at the U.S. Amateur later this month"

A transfer from Kent State University, Watson will sit out the 2012-13 season, and have two years of eligibility remaining at Wisconsin.
