Two golfers finish well at the Magnolia Amateur

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Two UW golfers competed well placing fifth in the college competition of the 54-hole Magnolia Amateur which finished July 14 at the Hattiesburg Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Junior Rob Jacobsen completed the individual event tied for 11th at 2-over par 75-72-68--215. Both the 68 and 215 were personnel bests.

Sophomore Matt Ross tied for 16th with a 3-over 72-75-69--216. The 69 and 216 were career best scores.

Together the duo combined at 5-over to place fifth in the college/university results. This is the second annual Magnolia Amateur, an exclusive tournament for 120 players consisting of college and mid-amateur players who carry a 5 or under handicap.

Casey O'Toole of Samford University won the individual competition with a 7-over 71-69-66--206. Kevin Jorden of the University of Southern Mississippi was second at 4-over. Jorden and teammate Kevin Brady won the college meet at 6-under.
