MADISON, Wis. -- After showing significant improvement in scoring and success in 2014, the Wisconsin men's golf team will continue to stretch and grow by seeing three new courses in its fall lineup in addition to a home meet and a visit to Erin Hills Golf Course, the site of the 2017 U.S. Open.

UW will participate for the first time in Coach Burcin's tenure in the Wolverine Intercollegiate Sept. 6-7 held at the U-M course in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Wisconsin will visit another Big Ten foe at the Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern Sept. 21-22 held at the Evanston Golf Course in Evanston, Illinois.

Last year, the Badgers played in their first home meet since hosting the Big Ten Golf Championships in 2005, when the 2013 Badger Invitational was held at UW's home course, University Ridge. Wisconsin will again host the 54-hole Invitational Sun-Tues., Sept. 28-30. The Badgers were 11th in the 14-team field with 900 while South Carolina won the tournament with an 8-under par 282-283-291--856.

For the second-straight year, the Cardinal and White will compete at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by Marquette, at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin. In the inaugural Erin Hills Intercollegiate last year, UW was 10th with 898 in a challenging field. The tournament was won by Stanford University with a 13-under par 280-285-286--851.

In addition, several players will gain some experience by competing, Sept. 8-9 in Green Bay, as individuals at the UW-Green Bay Invitational.

"By far this is the best fall the program will go through in many years," UW head coach Michael Burcin said.  "The combination of golf courses and competition will put us in position to have a great year.  All of these golf courses have each collectively hosted NCAA competitions, USGA championships, and PGA Tour events.  Upon coming to Wisconsin it was important to set the standard that kids will know upon coming to Madison, that we will play a nationally-competitive schedule on great courses.

"We are also playing a few individual events each year, which will give our young guys some guaranteed events to play in and this will be key to the development of the program."

The 72-hole Big Ten Championships will be held at a new venue next April. The Victoria National Golf Course just outside of Evansville, Indiana, will host the tournament April 24-26. The Badgers closed out the 2014 season with a 10th-place finish at the 2014 Big Ten Championships held May 2-4 on the Pete Dye Course in French Lick, Indiana. UW recorded a 311-302-312-297--1222, the lowest conference team finish since 2009. It was also the fewest strokes for the 72-hole tournament since 2010.

The Badgers had three players place among the top 25 at the Big Ten tournament for the first time since the 2008, and only the third time since 2000.

Junior Thomas O'Bryan shot 12-over par 76-76-74-74--300 to take 12th place at the Big Ten Championships, the highest finish for a Wisconsin individual since 2010.
