PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Freshman Thomas O'Bryan was recognized May 1 as one of 12 Sportsmanship Award honorees by the Big Ten Conference.
Those receiving the award are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
O'Bryan led the Badgers in two tournaments this past year. In the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, the last tournament of fall season, he finished tied for 21st with a 75-73-78--226. He had his career low 54-hole score at Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational finishing tied for 36th with 78-72-74--224.
He set his career low 72-hole and 18-hole scores at New Year's Invitational with 73-82-78-69--302 and led UW in last tournament of the season at Big Ten Championships finishing tied for 28th with 80-78-73-77--308. He had the second lowest stroke average on the team with 76.58 through 26 rounds.
Although not eligible for Academic All-Big Ten recognition as a freshman, O'Bryan holds over a 3.0 grade point average in his pre-business major.
