Men's Golf in Sixth After First Two Rounds of Fossum/Spartan Invite





With all five golfers finishing in the top 41, the University of Wisconsin mens golf team finds itself in sixth place after the first two rounds of the Fossum/Spartan Invitational Saturday at the par-72, 7,013-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course.

The Badgers shot a first round total of two-under par 286 to end the round in a tie for fifth, and followed that up with an ever par 288 to get to their current position of sixth.

Sophomore Dan Woltman (Beaver Dam, Wis.) is the top Badger after two rounds as he sits in a tie for 16th place. Woltman, who was tied for 11th after shooting a two-under 70 in round one, shot a one-over par 73 in round two to finish with a one-under 143 after the first 36 holes.

Senior Garrett Jones (Rewey, Wis.) shot a three-under par 69 to finish tied for fifth after round one, only to fall back into a tie for 22nd after round two. For the second round, Jones recorded a three-over par 75 to put him at an even 144.

Wisconsins third best finisher was sophomore Tyler Obermueller (River Falls, Wis.). He currently sits in a tie for 29th place with a one-over 145. In the first round, Obermueller shot an even par 72 to finish in a tie for 18th, but shot a one-over 73 to fall back to his current position in the standings.

Tied for 37th place is sophomore Pat Duffy (Appleton, Wis.). Duffy shot an opening round three-over par 75 to move into a tie for 46th, but responded strongly with an even par 72 to move up the leader board. He is currently three strokes over par with a 147.

Rounding out Wisconsins five golfers is junior Jeff Kaiser. The Onalaska, Wis. native recorded a six-over 78 for the first 18 holes to end in a tie for 59th. He responded though by firing a two-under 70 over the second 18 to move to his current spot. For the tournament, Kaiser is four-over with a 148.

Michigan State leads the team competition as it is currently 13-under par after shooting a 563 (279-284). Cam Burke of Eastern Michigan leads the individuals. Burke is nine-under par after firing a 135 (64-71).

The Badgers return to action tomorrow morning for the final round of the Fossum/Spartan Invitational. Tee times are set for 9 a.m. Fans can follow live stats by going to GolfStat.com.
