MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men’s golf team travels to Iowa City, Iowa, April 12-13 to compete in the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa.

The Badgers are returning to the 54-hole invitational after placing eighth at the event in 2013 with a 34-over par 303-300-295—898. The 12-team field will compete at the par 72, 7,239-yard Finkbine Golf Course.

"The Iowa event has grown to be one of our favorites,” said UW head coach Michael Burcin. “It's a well-run event on a solid golf course and it's an easy trip.”

The invitational begins with 36 holes on Saturday and concludes with 18 holes on Sunday. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT.

2014 Field: Denver, DePaul, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Washington State, Wisconsin

Competing for the Badgers are redshirt seniors Robert Jacobsen, Jack Watson and Zach Balit. The experienced trio heads into the trip coming off of strong individual performances this season. Jacobsen, Balit and Watson have combined for 24 rounds this year at 74 or lower.

“We will again look for Rob, Jack, and Zach to lead us,” said Burcin. “We are stressing with these guys that they are on the verge of winning individually and being mentally strong is the last hurdle.”

As a team, UW is averaging 299.2 strokes per 18 holes (5984 strokes/20 rounds). Jacobsen is leading Wisconsin individually with his 18-hole average of 73.9 strokes (1478/20). Watson is averaging 74.23 (1262/17), while Balit has an average of 75.5 (1510/20).

Junior Thomas O’Bryan and freshman Richard Hubbard round out Wisconsin's travel roster.

“In Hubbard and O'Bryan we again look for two guys to take hold of the 4 and 5 spots,” said Burcin. “Richard has shown signs of great play this year and we know he's a mentally tough kid. Thomas is excited to return to his form of the last two seasons and he has played at Finkbine previously."
