Badgers to compete in USF Invitational March 2-4

MADISON, Wis. - After a week off from competition, the Badgers are back in the swing of it this Sunday-Tuesday, March 2-4, at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Tampa, Fla., for the USF Invitational.

The Badgers will compete against a competitive 17-team field when the 54-hole event tees off on Sunday at the par 72, 7,060-yard course.

2014 Field: Air Force, Auburn, Charleston, Cincinnati, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Marquette, Memphis, Mercer, Ohio State, Purdue, South Florida, UNCG, Wisconsin

At the 2013 USF Invitational, the Badgers tallied a 60-over par 310-303-311--924 for 16th place.  North Carolina claimed the team title after recording a 4-under par 287-280-293--860.

Senior Robert Jacobsen, redshirt senior Jack Watson, redshirt senior Zach Balit, senior John Gullberg, and sophomore Matt Ross are set to compete for Wisconsin. Both Jacobsen and Gullberg bring experience to the tournament after competing for the Badgers at last year’s event.

Wisconsin opened up the spring schedule Feb. 14-15 competing at the Big Ten Match Play Tournament at The Concessions Golf Course in Brandenton, Fla.  UW dropped its first match to Indiana in the opening round 4-1, but rebounded to a 4-1 win against Nebraska in the consolation bracket.

The Badgers finished the tournament 1-2 after falling to Michigan State 3-0-2 in the second round of the consolation bracket.

After the USF Invitational this weekend, Wisconsin will travel to the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C., on March 16-17 for the Seahawk Intercollegiate.
