Big Ten Match Play Results

MADISON, Wis. -- The Badgers wrapped up the Big Ten Match Play tournament at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., with a 4-1 victory over Penn State in consolation action.

At the No. 1 spot, Chris Meyer won 2-up over Jens Talbert. Sophomore Thomas O'Bryan won his third match with a 7&5 win over Anthony DeGol.

Thomas Welk beat Jay Woodward 1-up. Robbie Jacobsen won 2&1 over Xander McDonald-Smith. Freshman Matt Ross lost to Geoff Vartelas 2-up.

Badger coach Michael Burcin was pleased with his team's performance saying "This was a nice day of progression for our program. With this being the program's best overall performance ever in this event, we feel good about our spring schedule. With a close loss and a tie yesterday coupled with the win today, we are excited for the guys.

"Thomas O'Bryan and Chris Meyer were outstanding for us this week. Going 5-0-1 between those two kept us in every match."

Illinois won its first Big Ten Match Play Championship earning a 5-0-0 triumph over seventh-seeded Michigan State in the finals to earn the crown. The top-seeded Illini posted a 14-0-1 record during the two-day event.
 
After a first-round bye, Illinois picked up a 4-0-1 win over No. 9 Michigan in the quarterfinals, followed by a 5-0-0 victory against No. 5 Ohio State to advance to the finals.
