Kiawah Island, S.C.- The Badgers finished sixth of 26 teams in the first round of the 54-hole Wendy's Kiawah Classic with a 12-over 296 at the Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
South Carolina is the only team under par after the first day. The Gamecocks are currently in first place with a 2-under 282. Winthrop is in second place with a 5-over 289.
Mason Casper of Utah Valley and Caleb Sturgeon of South Carolina are tied for first, both with 3-under 68. Matthew NeSmith of South Carolina is in third with a 2-under 69.
After the first round, UW was led by seniors Thomas Welk and Anthony Aicher who are both tied for 30th with 2-over par 73. Senior Chris Meyer is tied for 40th with a 3-over 74. Sophomore Thomas O'Bryan is tied for 64th with a 5-over 76. Senior Brady Keegan is tied for 70th with a 6-over 77. Keegan recorded an ace in his round for the Badgers and was the only player in the tournament to card a hole-in-one on the day on hole four, draining his shot from the tee on the fourth hole.
Play continues with 18 holes tomorrow.
