FRENCH LICK, Ind. – Wisconsin's Thomas O’Bryan used a strong performance filled with consistent play to tie for 12th and lead the Badgers to a top-10 finish at the 2014 Big Ten Men’s Golf Championships held May 2-4, in French Lick, Ind.

The junior tallied a 2-over par 74 on Sunday in the final round held on the 7,152-yard, par-72 Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort. O’Bryan shot 12-over par 76-76-74-74--300 to take 12th place, which ties his career-best tournament finish set at the 2012 Kiawah Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C.

UW earned its best 18-hole score of the meet in round four, shooting 9-over par 297 on day three of the 72-hole tournament. The Badgers recorded a 70-over par 311-302-312-297--1222 to take 10th place, which is their best finish since taking 10th at the 2009 Big Ten Championships held in University Park, Pa.

Minnesota was crowned tournament champion, topping the 12-team field with 34-over par 295-300-301-290--1186. Illinois claimed second place with 38-over par 297-298-308-287--1190 and Iowa rounded out the top-3 teams with 42-over par 307-296-307-284--1194. Northwestern placed fourth with 52-over par 301-301-305-297--1204, while Purdue finished fifth with 53-over par 298-296-309-302--1205.

The Gophers’ Jose Mendez (69-74-73-73) and Illinois’ Charlie Danielson (71-76-72-70) were co-champions among the 60-player field after tallying a tournament-best 1-over par 289. Danielson won the Big Ten tiebreaker. Northwestern’s Jack Perry (73-75-73-73) and Minnesota’s Jon Trasamar (74-76-74-70) tied for third place with 6-over par 294.

In addition to O’Bryan’s top-15 finish, two other Badgers placed among the top-30 competitors. Redshirt seniors Jack Watson (78-71-80-75) and Zach Balit (78-77-76-73) tied for 24th place with 16-over par 304. It was the first time the Badgers had three players among the top 25 since the 2008 tournament and only the third time since 2000.

Redshirt senior Robert Jacobsen (79-81-85-76) and freshman Ben Skogen (86-78-82-75) rounded out the Badgers’ roster, tying for 55th place with 33-over par 321.
