MADISON, Wis. - The Badgers opened their spring season this weekend at the Big Ten Match Play Championships at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. They completed the tournament Saturday with a loss to Michigan, losing both matches during the event.

Wisconsin got its only victory of the day from Thomas Welk. The junior went 5 & 3 against Michigan's Matt Felsenfeld. Welk came back to win after being down until the fifth hole. Welk was able to gain the victory on the 15th hole.

In the top spot for the Badgers, Anthony Aicher took his match all the way to the last hole, but lost 1-up to Matt Thompson. Thomas O'Bryan lost 6 & 5 to Jack Shultz, Chris Meyer lost 2 & 1 to Miguel Echavarria and Brady Keegan lost 3 & 2 to Noori Hyun. Zach Balit was also able to take his match out to 18 holes, but lost 1 up to Matt Alessi.

Northwestern won the championship for the third-straight year defeating Minnesota 3-1-1.

The Badgers will continue their spring season on March 25 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awenden, S.C.
