Madison, Wis. - The Badgers opened the spring season today at the Big Ten Match Play tournament at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. Wisconsin lost to Ohio State 3-1 in the first round, sending the team to the consolation bracket.
UW's lone win came from sophomore Thomas O'Bryan. O'Bryan won 3&2 against Ohio State's Grant Weaver.
In the No. 1 spot for Wisconsin, Chris Meyer tied the Buckeye's Boo Timko. Thomas Welk played in the No. 3 spot for the Badgers and lost to Tee-K Kelly 3&2. Freshman, Matt Ross lost to Michael Bernard 3&2 and Robert Jacobsen lost to Matt Turner 3&1.
The Badgers fell to Nebraska in the final match of Big Ten play in the consolation bracket, 2-2.
Wisconsin's wins came from Thomas O'Bryan and John Gullberg. O'Bryan won his second match of the day, 2-up against Nebraska's Ross Dickson. Gullberg defeated Cameron Palmer 1-up.
Chris Meyer tied the Husker's Kolton Lapa in the No. 1 spot. Thomas Welk fell to Matt Record 4&2 and Matt Ross lost to Kevin Gillick 5&4.
Illinois will face Ohio State and Michigan State will face Iowa in the semifinals tomorrow morning.
The Badgers will continue their spring season on March 3 at the USF Invitational in Dade City, Fla.
