MADISON, Wis. – Last week was a productive one on the awards front for the University of Wisconsin football team as three players took home national honors. The accolades continued to roll in on Tuesday as six Badgers earned All-American status.
Wisconsin placed five players on one of the three Associated Press All-American teams.
Senior offensive linemen Gabe Carimi and John Moffitt each earned first-team honors, while senior tight end Lance Kendricks and junior defensive end J.J. Watt were tabbed to the second team. Junior running back John Clay rounded out the honors by being placed on the third team.
Carimi, winner of the 2010 Outland Trophy, and Kendricks, a finalist for the Mackey Award, were also named to SI.com’s All-American first team. Watt, who won the Lott IMPACT Trophy, was joined on SI’s second team by Moffitt.
Over at Rivals.com, running back James White was named to the site’s Freshman All-America first team. The same honor was bestowed upon the Big Ten Freshman of the Year at CollegeFootballNews.com. This season White became just the fourth freshman in school history to go over the 1,000-yard mark and currently sits at 1,029 yards for the year.
