MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin Department of Athletics and its concessionaire, the National W Club, are making a $10,000 donation to American Red Cross relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and the devastation the storm brought to millions in the eastern part of the United States.
The money will come from a portion of the concessions proceeds from this Saturday’s home football game against Ohio State.
“We’re pleased to be able to assist with relief and recovery efforts that are necessary as a result of Sandy,” UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said. “We have a lot of student-athletes from that part of the country and, of course, the university as a whole has a significant number of students from New York, New Jersey and other affected areas. I’m hopeful this donation will help not only their families, but everyone that has been impacted.”
