Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List

MADISON, Wis. -- The Rotary Lombardi Award Committee released the watch list for the 2010 Rotary Lombardi Award on Friday and the four Badgers that appeared on the preliminary watch list are now on the official list. Sophomore linebacker Chris Borland, senior left tackle Gabe Carimi, senior tight end Lance Kendricks and senior offensive lineman John Moffitt highlight the list of 87 players.

Wisconsin is one of just three teams in the country with four players on the watch list, joining TCU and North Carolina. A total of 11 players from the Big Ten appear on the watch list.

The Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. Former Badgers Erasmus James (2004) and Aaron Gibson (1998) were finalists for the award.

Borland was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a first-team freshman All-American in 2009 after starting each of the final six games. He recorded 54 tackles, 10.5 TFLs and 5.0 sacks while ranking third in the Big Ten in both forced fumbles (5) and fumbles recovered (3).

Carimi has started 36 games at left tackle over the last three seasons. He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches in 2009 and a second-team choice by the media. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Carimi was also on the Lombardi Award watch list last season.

Kendricks looks to extend the Badgers' tradition of strong tight end play in 2010. He ranked fourth on the team in receptions (29) and receiving yards (356) in 2009, including a seven-catch, 128-yard performance against Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl. Kendricks is one of just three tight ends to appear on the watch list.

Like Carimi, Moffitt is also a return honoree on the Lombardi watch list. He was a consensus first-team All-Big Ten choice a year ago after starting 10 games, eight at left guard and two at center. Moffitt has started 29 games in the last three seasons, including 15 at center and 14 at guard.

To date, 11 Wisconsin players have been added to watch lists for 14 different major college football awards. The list can be found below:
