The Wisconsin football team, which held its first full practice this afternoon, participated in media day today at the OConnor Catholic Center, answering questions from the more than 40 reporters in attendance. Head coach Barry Alvarez addressed the group for about a half hour while the players and assistant coaches were available for comment afterwards.
Alvarez touched on many topics during his session including preparation for the upcoming season, in particular the Badgers season-opener against Virginia on Aug. 25. He also spoke at length about the adjustments the UW faced this season, ranging from the unsettled tailback situation to the further incorporation of the spread formation into the offense. Other items Alvarez commented on were the experience and depth at quarterback, the role some freshmen will have to play on the team and the recent tragedy at Northwestern.
Players and assistant coaches were then available in the courtyard area of the OConnor Center. Among the favorites of the press were preseason Big Ten defensive Player of the Year Wendell Bryant, quarterbacks Brooks Bollinger and Jim Sorgi, tight end Mark Anelli and freshman wide receiver Darrin Charles.
