MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin football fans headed to Houston for the season-opening AdvoCare Texas Kickoff game against LSU will not want to miss the J.J. Watt Foundation Tailgate on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Badgers great and Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, as well as UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez and Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne will be at the event which runs from 5-7:30 p.m. inside the Houston Methodist Training Center.
The event will be a great way for Badgers fans to escape the Texas heat inside the indoor practice facility of the Houston Texans. Located immediately across the street from NRG Stadium, there’s no more convenient place for fans to get ready for the big game.
“I am very proud and excited to be hosting this tailgate party in Houston prior to the Wisconsin vs. LSU matchup to kick off the college football season,” Watt said. “The people of Houston have been unbelievably supportive of me since I’ve first arrived and, as you well know, I will always be a Badger for life, so this opportunity to introduce my hometown to my new home is very special to me.
“I hope you’ll come out and join us as I give you a taste of Texas and we help raise a bit of money for kids through the Justin J. Watt Foundation before we head into NRG Stadium and cheer on the Badgers.”
Fans will want to be there early to enjoy music and entertainment. There’ll be terrific food provided by Killen’s Texas Barbeque and plenty of beer, soda and water. Fans will also enjoy interactive games and activities provided by the Houston Texans, a performance by the Texans cheerleaders, an appearance by Bucky Badger and the UW Spirit Squad and much more.
Tickets are $60 for adults and $25 for youth 12 and under. Tickets include admission to the tailgate, plus all the food and beverage you care to enjoy before the game. Space is limited.
Donors to Wisconsin Athletics and football season ticket holders who have already secured tickets to the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff can purchase tickets to the tailgate before the general public from June 13-18. Those patrons should check their email for instructions on how to order.
Ticket sales will be open to all members of the general public beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on June 18.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Justin J. Watt Foundation. Established in 2013, the foundation has already donated more than $500,000 to provide after-school opportunities for middle school-aged children.
The J.J. Watt Foundation Tailgate is presented in partnership between Wisconsin Athletics, the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the Houston Texans.
