MADISON, Wis.  -- Austin Ramesh rushed for 71 yards in two quarters, and Jack Russell kicked two field goals to give the Cardinal a 6-0 victory over the White squad in the 2014 Wisconsin Football Spring Game.

After a three-month break following the Capital One Bowl, the Badgers returned to action at Camp Randall Stadium for their annual spring game. Fans gathered to catch the Cardinal and White teams go head-to-head in two full 15-minute quarters of competition that followed a structured set of offense-versus-defense plays.

The Cardinal made its first statement early, as quarterback Tanner McEvoy led a 46-yard scoring drive in the third quarter. Austin Ramesh controlled the tempo, rushing for 21 yards on four carries to set up the eventual score when Russell capped off the drive with a 41-yard field goal to put the squad up 3-0. The junior owns a career long of 48.

The final score of the game also came in the third quarter. The Cardinal pushed out a 63-yard drive that resulted in a 30-yard field goal by Russell. Ramesh, who rushed for 71 yards total, added another 22 yards on the possession to position his team for the win.

McEvoy headed the charge for the Cardinal, passing for 55 yards on four completions. Fresh faces led the White squad, as Bart Houston threw for 19 yards (3-for-4) and Thad Armstrong went 2-for-2 for 16 yards.

Despite the loss, Austin Hudson made a defensive statement for White’s defense. The freshman led all Badgers with five tackles, including one solo stop. Joe Ferguson added four of the White team’s 24 tackles. The Cardinal squad picked up 18 tackles in its shutout of the White squad.

The Badgers are set to open the 2014 season on Aug. 30 against LSU in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium in Houston.
