MADISON, Wis. -- University of Wisconsin student-athletes celebrated the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service by giving back to the Madison community, appearing at two local events honoring the late activist.

Football players Ray Ball and James Adeyanju and track athlete Angela Boushea helped collect donations at the City of Madison and Dane County Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance held at the Overture Center on Jan. 21.

“I really enjoyed the event. It was an honor to be there,” Ball said. “I was happy to see how many people came out to support our community and celebrate the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.”

The UW women’s swimming and diving team also took part in the festivities, helping the Urban League set up for the Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Recognition Breakfast

“It meant a lot to them that we all came and helped,” said senior swimmer Hannah Ross. “It was exciting to see them so appreciative of a few hours of our time.”
