Washington scored the games first 17 points en route to a 44-8 Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin.
Washington tallied the first TD on a 6-yard run by Don McKeta 10 minutes into the game. George Fleming booted a 26-yard field goal after the Huskies recovered one of four Wisconsin fumbles. Fleming then returned a punt 53 yards for a score on the final play of the period for a 17-0 Husky lead.
Badger fullback Tom Wiesner tallied Wisconsins only points on a four-yard run with 5:27 left in the opening half. Dale Hackbart connected with Al Schoonover for a two-point conversion that cut the lead to 17-8.
Washington quarterback Bob Schloredt, who shared game MVP honors with Fleming, tossed a 23-yard TD pass to close the first-half scoring. Schloredt completed four passes for 102 yards and rushed for 81 yards.
Wisconsin mounted a challenge in the third quarter, but four plays inside the Husky 10-yard line failed. The Badger defense entered the bowl with a defensive average of barely 10 points allowed per game for the regular season.
