As temperatures stayed in the upper 80s and low 90s for the fourth day in a row, the Wisconsin football team completed their fourth practice of 2010 Fall Camp on Thursday. The Badgers were in half-packs (shoulder pads and helmets) for the second day in a row as they took part in 30 periods of work.


Redshirt freshman Jordan Kohout is projected to be a starter at defensive tackle this season, and he has a lot on his shoulders according to Tom Mulhern. Kohout was forced to miss practice on Thursday with a knee injury, however.

Kyle Jefferson is determined to finish his college journey, on time and in the company of the same teammates with whom he came to Wisconsin four years ago, writes Jeff Potrykus.

Rivals.com has a complete Big Ten preview including rankings of each positional unit at each school and first and second-team preseason honors. Gabe Carimi was named the conference's best offensive player, while Paul Chryst was the top offensive coordinator. Also, the Badgers are ranked No. 11 in the site's preseason poll.

 Badgers in the Pros

Oakland defeated Dallas in preseason football last night, 17-9. Michael Bennett had over 100 total yards as he led the team with 12 rushes for 68 yards and also caught one pass for 33 yards. Defensive end Matt Shaughnessy added two sacks in the win.

Nick Hayden had four tackles, one sack and a forced fumble in Carolina's 17-12 loss to Baltimore.

New Orleans lost to New England on a last-minute field goal, 27-24. Jonathan Casillas led the Saints with 11 tackles, including three tackles for loss, while P.J. Hill tied for the team lead with 30 rushing yards and added one catch for nine yards. Hill, wearing No. 32, threw in a couple nice blocks on the team's kickoff return for a touchdown, too.

Denver waived linebacker Nick Greisen on Thursday. Greisen signed with the Broncos prior to last season but missed the entire season with a knee injury suffered in training camp.

Thursday, Aug. 12

After spending the first two days of practice in helmets, the Wisconsin football team took it one step further by donning shoulder pads for its third practice of 2010 Fall Camp on Wednesday. The team practiced for 30 periods outside in Camp Randall Stadium in the scorching heat.

Sophomore quarterback Curt Phillips has spent most of his football career trying to get people to notice his right arm as much as his legs. He might have stumbled on a way to finally do that, writes Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal.

Wisconsin is ranked 12th in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll. This is the sixth time since 1994 the Badgers have been among the top 12 in the opening poll.

The Wisconsin football team drilled in the sweltering heat again Tuesday, taking part in their second practice session of Fall Camp 2010 inside Camp Randall Stadium.


Sophomore linebackers Mike Taylor and Chris Borland had more bonding time than they wanted since the end of last season, as the two have spent a great deal of time rehabbing following injuries, writes Tom Mulhern.

That new-car smell has yet to wear off Bret Bielema's still relatively brief tenure as the University of Wisconsin football team's head coach, writes Tom Mulhern. Bielema also recently played 18 holes with Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune, showcasing his "violent" swing.

According to Tom Oates, for John Clay to be in the Heisman mix, UW must win. And in the end, Clay's performance will have a lot to say about that. When asked last week about the possibility of winning the Heisman Trophy, Clay sounded much like Ron Dayne did in the summer of '99, according to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Rookie tight end Garrett Graham is learning all he can from new teammate Owen Daniels in Houston, writes Jordan Godwin. The two were also teammates at UW when Daniels was a senior and Graham was a redshirt freshman.

Joe Thomas, who has yet to miss an offensive snap for Cleveland, has been a rock of consistency for a team that has been plagued by losing and turmoil. Thomas was one of the Browns captains in 2009 and looks to assume even more of a leadership role this season, according to this AP story.

The San Francisco 49ers website catches up with rookie free agent Chris Maragos, who is trying to make the team. The 49ers free safety has been looked over countless times in his football career, but Maragos has always proved his critics wrong, writes Sam Good.

Wisconsin now has nine different players on preseason watch lists for major awards as junior wide receiver Nick Toon was named to the 51-player Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Tuesday.

It has been a long time since the University of Wisconsin football team could boast a completely healthy offensive line. Nobody knows how long it will last, but at least the Badgers are starting out fall camp that way, writes Tom Mulhern.

Eight different Badger players have been named to watch lists for major national awards so far in the preseason. UW is one of only three teams (Alabama, Oklahoma and Wisconsin) to have multiple players on the Maxwell and Bednarik Award watch lists.
