MADISON, Wis. -- Freshman guard Riley Dearring announced on Sunday his intention to redshirt the 2013-14 season for the Wisconsin men’s basketball team.
A Minnesota Mr. Basketball finalist in 2013, Dearring averaged 19.2 points as a high school senior, leading Minnetonka to a 20-5 record and a second-place finish in the Lake Conference.
A native of Minnetonka, Minn., Dearring will continue to practice with his teammates this season and will play as a redshirt freshman for the Badgers in 2014-15.
Dearring becomes the fourth Badgers player to announce his decision to redshirt this season, joining teammates Jordan Smith (Orono, Minn.), Zak Showalter (Germantown, Wis.) and Aaron Moesch (Green Bay, Wis.).
The 20th-ranked Badgers welcome North Dakota to the Kohl Center on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network.
