Wisconsin tops Augustana in exhibition game

MADISON, Wis. The Wisconsin men's basketball team opened its season with an 81-57 exhibition win against Augustana (S.D.). Marcus Landry led all scorers with 21 points in 21 minutes of action. Jon Leuer notched 15 points and three boards in front of 17,230 fans at the Kohl Center.

The game marked the first meeting between the Badgers and the Vikings. With the win, Wisconsin improves to 47-4 all-time in exhibition matches and have not lost a preseason game since losing to the Russian National Team, 87-81, on Nov. 17, 1992, a string of 32 consecutive victories.

Augustana hung with the Badgers through 10 minutes of play, but after the Vikings picked up their seventh team foul midway through the first half, Wisconsin stepped on the gas. UW would stretch an 18-14 lead to 39-24 by halftime. After intermission, four-straight 3-pointers (two from both Bohannon and Landry) gave the Badgers a comfortable lead en route to the victory.

All five of Wisconsin's freshmen made their debut Saturday night with three of them seeing double-digit minutes played. Ryan Evans led the group with six points and four boards, while guard Jordan Taylor connected on 5-of-6 free throws and posted a 5:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Rob Wilson saw 16 minutes of action and added five points.

UW's Jason Bohannon posted 12 points and four boards shooting 4-for-6 from the field. Keaton Nankivil pulled down seven boards for Wisconsin in his 17 minutes of action.

Nathan Truex led the way for the Vikings with 15 points and four rebounds. Marques Blank shot 6-of-8 from the field for Augustana scoring 13 points.

Wisconsin shot 75 percent from the free throw line while Augustana shot 57.1 percent.

All 17 Badgers that suited up Saturday night saw action in the game including all five freshmen who made their Badger debuts.
