Berggren's Senior CLASS profile

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin senior Jared Berggren has been selected as a candidate for the 2012-13 men's basketball Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for this prestigious honor, a student-athlete must excel both on and off the court, having notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Berggren is one of five Big Ten players on the list of 30 candidates, joining Brandon Paul (Illinois), Jordan Hulls (Indiana), Drew Crawford (Northwestern) and Tim Frazier (Penn State).

Berggren was named All-Big Ten honorable mention last season as a junior after finishing third on the Badgers in both points (10.5) and rebounds (4.9) and second in steals (32). The Princeton, Minn. native also led the Big Ten in blocks with 60, finishing with the third-highest single-season block total in UW history.

Off the court, Berggren boasts an overall GPA of 3.33 and will graduate in May of 2013 with personal finance major and a certificate from the prestigious School of Business.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Former Big Ten Player of the Year and All-American Alando Tucker was named the 2006-07 Senior CLASS Award winner.
