MADISON, Wis. -- After months of anticipation, the men's basketball season is finally upon us.
Bo Ryan and the Badgers enter the 2012-13 season ranked No. 21 in the season's first USA Today Coaches' poll, released Wednesday. UW is one of five Big Ten squads to appear in the national poll, more than any other conference in the country. The Badgers made their third-straight appearance in the preseason poll, and their fourth in the last five years.
The Badgers return four starters from a team that made their second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet Sixteen last year. Wisconsin earned its sixth-straight 20-win season in 2011-12, garnering the third most victories (26) in school history, and will look to continue that success with the return of 2011-12 All-Big Ten honorable mention honorees Ryan Evans and Jared Berggren.
Wisconsin's annual Red and White Scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Kohl Center. The Badgers open the regular-season at home on Nov. 11 against Southeastern Louisiana. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. (CT).
Big Ten Notes
Among the five Big Ten teams ranked in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, three were ranked in the top five. Indiana is projected as the top team in the country to start the season, with Ohio State (No. 3) and Michigan (No. 5) rounding out the top five. Michigan State comes in at No. 14, with Minnesota receiving votes outside of the top 25.
