MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin sophomore forward Ryan Evans (Phoenix, Ariz.) is one of 10 collegiate athletes invited to play for the Global Sports Academy Team on its European Tour August 12-20.
The 10 student-athletes will play five games and visit three different countries during the tour, which also includes a sightseeing trip to London. Illinois assistant coach Jay Price will take the helm as the squad’s head coach.
“I’m really looking forward to this experience,” Evans said. “I’ve never been to Europe, so this will be an exciting trip both in terms of playing basketball and sightseeing. Being able to play with other great players from the Big Ten and other conferences and compete against international competition will hopefully propel me into a successful season at Wisconsin.”
Evans is one of four Big Ten athletes on the roster, joining Tyler Griffey and Brandon Paul of Illinois and D.J. Byrd of Purdue.
The 6-foot-6 forward was a regular in Wisconsin’s rotation last season, averaging just over 13 minutes a game off the bench. His 3.5 PPG, 3.0 RPG and nearly 50 percent shooting helped guide the Badgers’ to their 12th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
As for following the games, Price will be providing updates and statistics of the team’s five games throughout the trip via his Twitter account. Fans can follow him @CoachJayPrice to receive all of the up-to-date information from overseas.
