MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's basketball program is well-represented as the 2010 NBA Summer League gets underway this week, with five former Badgers playing for roster spots in the annual showcase.
Brian Butch (Denver Nuggets), Trevon Hughes (Houston Rockets), Joe Krabbenhoft (Portland Trailblazers), Marcus Landry (Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks) and Greg Stiemsma (Minnesota Timberwolves) each have signed on to play in the league, which is held annually following the NBA Draft.
The summer league is comprised of teams representing all 30 NBA franchises and made up of players with less than three years of pro experience. Eight of those clubs played this week in Orlando, with the remaining teams converging on Las Vegas for games at either the Cox Pavilion or Thomas and Mack Center from July 9-18.
Landry is the lone former Badger to have played in Orlando and averaged 14.5 minutes and 7.3 points in four games with Indiana. The Pacers close out their Orlando schedule by facing Oklahoma City on Friday.
Landry also is expected to play for New York once the summer league shifts to Las Vegas.
There will be several opportunities for former Badgers teammates to go head-to-head in Vegas, beginning with a pair of games on Sunday. Landry's Knicks will face Butch's Nuggets at 3 p.m., while Krabbenhoft and the Trailblazers go up against Hughes and the Rockets at 5 p.m.
Butch also will take on Hughes when the Nuggets and Rockets face off at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14. Krabbenhoft and Stiemsma also have an opportunity to meet when the Blazers and Timberwolves meet at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 17.
With the exception of Houston's July 13 matchup with Toronto, each of the former Badgers' games will be aired live. NBA TV will carry all but one of the games, with ESPN3.com providing online coverage of 10 others involving the former UW players. NBA TV is available on DirecTV channel 216 and DISH Network channel 402. Cable customers should check their local listings.
