MADISON, Wis. -- Over the years, the Badgers have had the great fortune of visiting some of the most attractive sites in the country during the non-conference portion of the team's schedule. A visit to Las Vegas last November highlighted the 2012-13 season, while trips to St. Thomas (2008), Maui (2009) and Orlando, Fla. (2010) also come to mind.
The Badgers will see that fortune continue in 2013 as the team announced they will be visiting Mexico for the 2013 Cancun Challenge over the week of Thanksgiving. Wisconsin joins Old Dominion, Saint Louis and West Virginia in the Riviera Division. Bowling Green State, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian and a team yet to be announced will make up the Mayan Division.
Similar to the format of this past season's Las Vegas Invitational, the Badgers will host two games before the tournament shifts to Mexico for the Nov. 26 and Nov. 27 contests.
Tickets for the Cancun Challenge cannot be purchased directly through the Wisconsin Athletic Ticket Office. However, all-inclusive resort packages which include game admissions are available through Triple Crown Sports. | Ticket Information
Saint Louis returns four of its top six scorers off a team that finished 28-7 a year ago en route to winning the Atlantic 10 championship. West Virginia and Old Dominion failed to reach the postseason last year, but the Mountaineers are just one year removed from the NCAA tournament, while ODU last went to the Big Dance in 2011.
The Badgers will stay at the Aventura Palace Resort in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area. The 85-acre resort sits on the coast of Cancun, within an earshot of the white sand lagoon beaches that are spread out along the shores of Mexico. The fan lodging and admission package also includes unlimited food and beverages, bus transfers to and from airport and resort and admission to team banquet.
Last season, Final Four participant Wichita State won the 2012 Cancun Challenge by defeating Iowa in the championship game.
