MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin sophomore center Ian Markolf (San Antonio, Texas) has decided to withdraw from the men's basketball team.
After weighing his options of playing at another school or remaining at the University of Wisconsin, Markolf has elected to continue pursuing his degree in personal finance and investment at UW.
"I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for their help and support over the past two seasons," Markolf said. "I look forward to continuing our friendships and being a Badger fan while a student at Wisconsin. I wish them the best of luck in the seasons to come."
"We wish Ian the best of luck and thank him for his hard work over the last two years," Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan said. "He's been a good teammate and student and we wish him well as he pursues other endeavors and completes his degree at Wisconsin."
Markolf, who earned academic All-Big Ten honors this season, appeared in six career games for Wisconsin, including two in 2009-10. Wisconsin now has 12 players on scholarship for 2010-11 season, including three incoming freshmen - Evan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis.), Duje Dukan (Deerfield, Ill.) and Josh Gasser (Port Washington, Wis.).
