MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin senior Jon Leuer was selected as one of 10 men’s basketball finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. The prestigious honor is awarded to the student-athlete who best excels both on and off the court and is measured in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Leuer leads the Badgers averaging 19.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, and is also a two-time academic All-Big Ten selection, maintaining a cumulative grade-point average higher than 3.0.
The Orono, Minn., native ranks third in the Big Ten in scoring and eighth in the conference in rebounding. Leuer has scored 20 points or more eight times this season and is currently riding a streak of 26 consecutive games scoring in double figures. Leuer is shooting 47.1 percent from 3-point range (41-of-87), which ranks eighth in the Big Ten. He also ranks ninth in the conference, averaging 2.16 triples per game.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 10 finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 60 candidates announced in November. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote via the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award website or on the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through March 20. Fan votes will be combined with media and coaches votes to determine the winner.
Former Big Ten Player of the Year and All-American Alando Tucker was named the 2006-07 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award winner.
Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the men’s winner at the NCAA Final Four® in Houston and the women’s winner at the NCAA Women’s Final Four® in Indianapolis.
