After apprenticing under Jordan Taylor and playing both point guard and shooting guard, junior Josh Gasser figured to take over the role of lead guard in 2012-13. Instead, Gasser will redshirt during the 2012-13 season after suffering a torn left ACL on Oct. 27. After making 30 starts as a true freshman, Gasser started every game last season and established himself as one of the most well-rounded players in the Big Ten. A 2012 Big Ten All-Defensive Team honoree, Gasser also shot 45.2% from 3-point range (third-best in the conference) and ranks 5th in UW history with a 1.95 assist-to-turnover ratio. Gasser originally gave glimpses of that versatility when he posted Wisconsin's first-ever triple double in a 2011 win at Northwestern.

The Port Washington, Wis., native is beloved by Badgers fans and his teammates alike for his toughness, both mentally and physically. As a freshman in 2011, Gasser drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give Wisconsin a dramatic win at Michigan, then showed his physical toughness as a sophomore when he defended the SEC's leading scorer, Vanderbilt's John Jenkins, to 3-of-13 shooting while battling the flu.

Record Book
• Ranks fifth in school history with a career 1.95 assist-to-turnover ratio (min. 100 assists)
• Recorded the first triple-double in UW history with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists at Northwestern (1/23/11)
• Became first Big Ten freshman to record an official triple-double and the first since Earvin "Magic" Johnson accomplished it in 1977
• Scored 21 points in first-career game, ranking as the second-best freshman debut in UW annals
• His 2.57 assist-to-turnover ratio in 2010-11 ranks as the 5th-best single-season mark in UW annals
• Equaled UW freshman record by appearing in 34 games and his 30 starts are the third-most among Badger freshmen
• Became the 1st UW freshman to hit a game-winning buzzer beater (final second or as time expired) with his 3-pointer at the buzzer to win at Michigan (2/23/11)

Honor
• Named to 2012 Big Ten All-Defensive Team

Career

• Has appeared in all 70 games of his Badger career (66 starts)
• Owns 22 double-digits scoring games
• Started against North Dakota, becoming just the third UW freshman to start a game under Bo Ryan, joining Devin Harris in 2001-02 and Alando Tucker in 2002-03

2012-13 Season
Will redshirt the 2012-13 season after sustaining a torn left ACL during practice on October 27 and undergoing subsequent surgery on Nov. 6
