BOISE, Idaho -- The Badgers' 2008-09 season came to an end Sunday afternoon as they lost their second-round matchup to Xavier, 60-49, in Boise, Idaho.

Marcus Landry recorded a double-double leading all scorers with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Wisconsin but it would not be enough to overcome the 4th-seeded Musketeers.

 Fast Facts
• UW led 27-25 at the half; Hughes w/ 10 pts
• Badgers forced Xavier into 14 turnovers
• Landry led way for UW with game-high 18 pts

Defense would play an extremely important role in the game as both the Badgers and the Musketeers needed to play tight defense in order to control the tough offenses. Xavier stepped out to an 8-5 lead as B.J. Raymond hit a three off the in-bounds pass for the Musketeers. Landry put the Badgers back out in front, 9-8, with a nice up and under against a double-team with 10:16 left in the half.

It would be back and forth scoring on both ends throughout the rest of the first. Trevon Hughes went to the free throw line with just 36 seconds left where he sank both to give the Badgers a four-point lead, 27-23. On their last possession, the Musketeers found Derrick Brown who scored off a short jumper with four seconds left cutting the Badger lead to just two at 27-25 going into the break.

In the first half, Hughes led the Badgers with 10 points shooting 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

The Badgers came out of the intermission on fire as they went on an early 6-1 run. Landry scored on a drive in the lane and Xavier answered with a missed dunk and turnover on the other end leaving the Badgers up seven at 33-26. Wisconsin's biggest lead of the game forced a Xavier timeout and it seemed as if UW was starting to gain control.

The game would begin to turn. Xavier cut the UW lead to just one at 33-32 as Raymond hit a tough shot in the paint.

After a couple of empty possessions at both ends, Xavier's Dante Jackson hit a transition three from the corner giving XU the lead at 35-33 with 11:40 left. The Musketeers went on a 9-0 run with just over seven minutes left to take a three point lead at 40-37.

Landry tried to regain the momentum for the Badgers as he threw down a huge two-handed dunk cutting the XU lead to only five at 44-39 but the Badgers would not be able to regain the lead en route to a 60-49 loss to the Musketeers.

The Badgers were led by Landry who finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Hughes who added 17 points, four boards and two steals. The Musketeers were led by Raymond who posted 15 points and Jackson who notched eight points and four boards.

Wisconsin ended the season 20-13, marking the sixth 20-win season under head coach Bo Ryan.
