MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Athletic Department’s 13th Annual Student-Athlete Thank-a-Thon was recently held December 3-6 at Camp Randall Stadium and the Kohl Center.
Over 400 student-athletes representing all 23 sports, volunteered their time writing over 5,000 letters, to personally thank randomly-selected donors who generously give to Wisconsin Athletics.
UW Women’s golfer Alyssa Elliott said, “I really enjoy getting the opportunity to thank donors who give to the golf program and support other areas of athletics. It’s a neat way to say “thanks”.”
Along with balancing academics and athletics, Badger student-athletes completed more than 3,650 hours of community service and outreach including events like the Thank-a-Thon in 2012.
“I am really proud of our student-athletes for volunteering and embracing this effort each year," Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said. "The participation from all 23 of our sport programs is phenomenal. The Thank-a-Thon is an important part of our program and offers a chance for our student-athletes to personally reach out and thank those donors who passionately support the Badgers.”
The UW Athletic Department is self-sustaining and relies heavily on private gift to meet its annual funding needs. Contributions to Wisconsin Athletics are used to fund scholarships, new facility projects and support for all Badger student-athletes.
