MADISON, Wis. --  Thirteen UW student-athletes helped raise needed funds by bowling at Dream Lanes Bowling Alley in Madison on November 10 to benefit the East Madison Community Center.

The event raised $24,000 for the youth programs provided by the East Madison Community Center. The money will be used to purchase books, educational software and tutors that will help supplement the education of the 75-100 children who use the services.

Wrestlers Brad Nardick, Ben Cox, and Kegan Gennrich; men’s golfer Thomas O’Bryan; women’s swimmer Hannah Ross; men’s tennis players Alexander Kokorev, Jakhongir Jalolov and Oskar Wilde; and women rowers Lauren DeRouchey, Sydney Stiener, Alyssa Acker, Kelly Fisher and Laura Rudolph all mingled with the event participants and bowled a few games as “celebrity bowlers.”

Many of the participants were on hand to bowl with the student-athletes. They eagerly approached the student-athletes of their favorite sports to share their stories of young athletic prowess. Though the student-athletes enjoyed battling for the best bowling score, interacting with the kids was their favorite part of the event.

Ben Cox said, “It was a lot of fun interacting with kids at the bowling alley. It was really cool to see their excitement about us being there and it was a lot of fun talking to them about their athletic experiences.”
