MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin wrestling team visited Monona Grove McFarland Youth Wrestling Club on Jan. 23 to instruct the club’s youth on the ins-and-outs of wrestling.
More than 40 local youth benefited from the teachings of UW wrestlers Ben Cox, Jackson Hein, Tom Kelliher, Brad Nardick and Alex Yde. The Badgers spent an hour with the club, teaching them several moves, signing autographs and even playing tug-of-war.
For the UW wrestlers, the event was a welcomed opportunity to pass along some of the advice and mentoring they had received.
“I know I was thrilled to have older wrestlers come in and work with me when I was younger,” said Kelliher. “I hope the Monona Grove McFarland youth enjoyed our visit as much as we did.”
The UW wrestlers’ visit did have a profound impact on the young wrestlers, according to Monona Grove McFarland Youth Wrestling coach Randy Becker.
“It was great to see the UW wrestlers interact with our club. The kids were so focused and worked so hard,” said Becker. “The kids are still talking about that practice. We appreciate the time that the wrestlers took from their busy schedules to spend with our youth.”
