Lester and Weiss to compete at international events

MADISON, Wis. – After concluding their collegiate careers as NCAA All-Americans last season, former Badgers Dan Lester and Michael Weiss are continuing their dominance in the water, as the pair was selected to represent their respective countries at separate international events this upcoming winter.

Lester, who earned first-team All-America honors in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2012 NCAA Championships, was chosen to join the Australian National Team for the 2014 BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series in Perth, located in Western Australia.

Australia will join Brazil, China, South Africa and Japan as members of the five-way meet as they gear up for the year ahead which will also include the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2014 Hancock Prospecting Pan Pacific Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast in August.

Lester is one of 23 members to be named to the Australian National Team for the event.

Weiss, who earned a pair of first-team All-America awards last season in the 400-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle, has been chosen to represent Team USA at the Duel in the Pool in December in Scotland.

A member of the U.S. National Team, Weiss earned his first career goal medal in 2013, winning the 400-meter individual medley at the World University Games. His time of 4:12.00 ranked as the seventh-fastest 400 IM swim in the world at the time.
