Wisconsin swimming and diving team announces 2013-14 schedule

MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin swimming and diving team announced its 2013 schedule featuring a season opener against Georgia, home opener against Minnesota, back-to-back meets against California and Stanford and the annual Big Ten Quad Duals.

“Overall, I think this is perhaps the toughest schedule of anyone in the country,” UW head coach Whitney L. Hite said. “It goes along with our philosophy that we want to make sure we’re putting our athletes in the best position to see the best teams in the country and compete against the best.

“Certainly this year’s schedule does that for us.”

The Badgers’ early season will prove tough, with meets against reigning NCAA national champions (Georgia women’s) and Big Ten Conference champions (Minnesota women’s). They will also face competitive match-ups in California and Stanford, whose men’s and women’s teams both finished in the top eight at the 2013 NCAA championships.

Oct. 4-5 at Georgia (Gabrielsen Natatorium, Athens, Ga.)
The Badgers kick off their season with a meet against Georgia … women’s team claimed the NCAA team championship in 2013 … men’s team finished 10th at 2013 NCAA championships with 163 points

Oct. 18-19 vs. Minnesota (Natatorium, Madison, Wis.)
UW returns to Madison for lone home meet against Minnesota … men’s team finished 4th at the 2013 Big Ten Championships with 378 points and 18th at the NCAA Championship Meet … women’s team captured Big Ten championship with 680.5 points and finished 10th at the NCAA championship ceet with 140 points … Saturday’s meet will commemorate senior night

Nov. 1 at California (Spieker Aquatics Complex, Berkley, Calif.)
Wisconsin’s second road trip of season … men’s team finished 2nd at 2013 NCAA Championships … men’s team has back to back NCAA titles in 2011 and 2012 … women’s team has five straight top-3 finishes at NCAA championships 

Nov. 2 at Stanford (Avery Aquatics Center, Palo Alto, Calif.)
Stanford men have captured 32 straight top-10 finishes at NCAA championships … women’s team has 33 straight top-10 finishes at NCAA championships dating back to 1981 

Nov. 15 at Northwestern (Norris Aquatics Center, Evanston, Ill.)
Wisconsin’s second conference meet … Northwestern men’s team finished 9th-of-10 teams at 2013 Big Ten Championships … women finished 8th-of-12 teams at 2013 Big Ten Championships

Nov. 16 at Notre Dame (Rolfs Aquatic Center, South Bend, Ind.)
Women finished 16th at 2013 NCAA Championships … men finished 36th at 2013 NCAA Championships

Dec. 5-7 – Texas Invitational (Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, Austin, Texas)
Arizona and Texas will compete alongside the Badgers … Texas men claimed 2012 Big 12 championship and women placed second … Arizona men finished fifth at the 2012 NCAA championships, while the women finished 10th at their championships meet.

Jan. 4 at Hawaii (Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex, Honolulu, Hawai’i)
Badgers continue long-standing tradition of visiting Hawai’i to train following the New Year. 

Jan. 11 at USC (Uytengsu Aquatic Center, Los Angeles, Calif.)
Men finished 3rd at Pac-12 Championships and 4th at NCAA championships in 2013 … women’s team was runner-up at Pac-12 Championships and placed 7th at NCAA championships in 2013 … competitive Pac-12 Conference features six men’s and six women’s teams that placed at 2013 NCAA championships 

Jan. 17-18 at Virginia, Virginia Tech (Christiansburg Aquatic Center, Blacksburg, Va.)
Meet will feature Harvard men, Miami women, and both Virginia and Virginia Tech teams

Jan 31-Feb 1 – Big Ten Triple Duals (Boilermaker Aquatic Center, West Lafayette, Ind.)
Wisconsin takes on two Big Ten Conference rivals in Purdue and Minnesota … Purdue women placed 19th at NCAA championships in 2013 with 44 points … Purdue men placed 25th at NCAA championships with 26 points

Feb. 7 at Milwaukee (Klotsche Natatorium, Milwaukee, Wis.)
Men placed 2nd at Horizon League Championships … women captured Horizon League Championship title and placed 32nd at 2013 NCAA Championships

Feb 8 at Green Bay (Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium, Green Bay, Wis.)
Women placed 3rd and men finished 4th at Horizon League Championships

 • Feb. 19-22 – Big Ten Championships (W) (Minneapolis, Minn.)
Wisconsin women finished in 7th place during 2013 Big Ten Championships 

Feb 26-March 1 – Big Ten Championships (M) (Ann Arbor, Mich.)
Wisconsin men finished in 6th place at 2013 Big Ten Championships

March 20-22 – NCAA Championships (W) (Minneapolis, Minn.)
Wisconsin women finished 15th at last year’s NCAA Championships

March 27-29 – NCAA Championships (M) (Austin, Texas)
Wisconsin men finished 13th at last year’s NCAA Championships
