MADISON, Wis. -- In a weekend full of achievements for members of the Wisconsin swimming and diving program, sophomore diver Ashley Peterson added herself to the growing list by qualifying for senior nationals while performing in Coral Springs, Florida, on Sunday.
The sophomore from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, qualified for the championship meet on the ten-meter platform with a score of 218.95. With the performance, she advances and will compete at the AT&T National Diving Championships held in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Aug. 14.
Held Aug. 12-17, the AT&T National Diving Championships is one of the premier diving events held each year and is expected to draw approximately 100 of the nation’s best divers.
"This is Ashley's first individual qualification to senior nationals," diving coach Anton Slobounov said. "She has worked very hard this summer and we are excited to see her compete on the national stage."
Last season, Peterson became just the second UW diver since 2004 to earn points in two separate diving events at the Big Ten championships. She earned a 14th-place finish in the platform dive (233.45) and a 15th-place finish in the 1-meter event (268.95).
