MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin men's swimming and diving senior Nick Caldwell was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District at-large team, CoSIDA announced on Thursday.
A second-team All-Big Ten honoree, the Sarasota, Florida, native posted a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average while studying chemistry and was honored as a District 6 winner along with nine other NCAA Division I student-athletes.
Caldwell owns three school records in the 200-yard (1:34.10), 1000-yard (9:01.33) and 1650-yard (15:02.16) freestyle events. He also etched his name in the record books with the second-fastest time in school history in the 500-yard freestyle (4:15.81) at last season's Big Ten championships.
Named to the U.S. National Team for 2013-14, Caldwell also earned honorable-mention All-America honors at the NCAA championships by helping the 800-yard freestyle relay squad to a 13th-place finish in the finals and a school record (6:19.22) in the event's prelims.
The Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
