MADISON, Wis. -- The Red White Hunger Fight has begun and Badger student-athletes are asking for YOUR help in making the event a success and end the fight against hunger!

The Red White Hunger Fight is a campus-wide food drive benefiting the Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin. The student-athletes organization, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), is spearheading the effort in collaboration with The Morgridge Center for Public Service, the Community Action Coalition and UW Homecoming Committee.

Barrels have been distributed throughout campus and will remain there until November 12. On November 13th, all donated food will be delivered to Ogg Residence Hall at 7:00 p.m. Volunteers will then sort the food and load it into trucks bound for the Community Action Coalition.

The student-athletes and participating student-organizations will also be “tagging-and-bagging” neighborhoods around the Madison community.  On November 4, groups will be going door-to-door and placing bags near the front door of neighborhood residences. They will return to those homes on November 11 to collect any food donated via the bags.

The organization that has collected the most food will win tickets to a Badger men’s basketball game and will be recognized at half-time of the game.

Students wishing to participate in the Red White Hunger Fight can visit here for more information.
Community members wishing to participate in the effort can place food in the bags placed on their doorstep or drop food off at the Community Action Coalition office in Madison.

The Red White Hunger Fight was started by former UW women’s soccer player Michelle Dalton in 2008. Since its debut year, the “Fight” has collected more than 8.75 tons of food and over $4,443. These donations have provided Thanksgiving meals to over 500 families in the Madison area.
