General Information

On Wisconsin!

Typically Bucky Badger attends all home football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, wrestling and softball games. He also makes occasional appearances at the remainder of UW athletic games and events. Bucky also supports our team on the road by attending all away football games, Bowl games and various post-season tournaments. Bucky represents the University of Wisconsin by attending many Public Relation events. These events include various athletic-related and university functions, community events, parades, pep rallies, and other public and private events.

Members of the University of Wisconsin Bucky Badger team are members of the UW Athletic Department. Like other athletes of this university, we abide by the rules set by the Big Ten and NCAA. We encourage your involvement in other activities; however, we ask that your commitment to your squad and sport come before any other extracurricular activities (i.e. sororities, fraternities, jobs, clubs and organizations). Please keep these in mind when trying out for the team.

Time Commitment

Being a Bucky Badger is a year round commitment. Immediately following tryouts in April, members will train to be in the mascot suit and start attending events. With over 600 events a year, the seven team members each do their share of appearances. Be aware that there may be mandatory practices, games, and PR events scheduled while school is not in session. This means that you must be available for Summer, Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring Break. During the school year, the team practices each Tuesday evening to schedule events, work out and brainstorm for skit ideas for football games and Nationals.

Nationals

Each year the team has the opportunity to compete at the UCA College Mascot National Championship in January at Walt Disney World. The team prepares and submits a video tape to qualify for Nationals in October. If the team qualifies, they put in extra practice time to prepare for Nationals throughout the fall months and during Winter Break. In 2008, Bucky Badger received his first paid bid to attend the National Competition and placed 2nd, his highest finish ever.
