Team USA takes third-straight medal at World Junior Championship
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin sophomore forward Trent Frederic had the performance of the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, scoring four goals in Team USA's 9-3 victory over Czech Republic in the bronze medal game on Friday.
Frederic, who was named the Player of the Game, broke a 0-0 game by scoring a short-handed tally with under four seconds remaining in the first period.
He then added the team's fourth, and eventual game-winning tally, at 5:52 of the second period. He completed the hat trick at 12:55 of the second period to make it 6-0, then scored a third-period power-play tally for his fourth goal in the game.
The 2016 Boston Bruins first-round draft pick finished the tournament with five goals for the Americans, who claimed a medal in three-straight World Junior Championships for the first time in U.S. history after earning gold in 2017 and bronze in 2016.
Frederic's participation made him the 54th Badger all-time to skate in the event, dating back to its official sanctioning in 1978.
The tournament took place in Buffalo, New York.
