MADISON, Wis. – A week after being named the Big Ten Conference Setter of the Week,
Sydney Hilley earned her second straight Big Ten award, being named the Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
The 6-0 setter on the Wisconsin volleyball team was named to the K-State Invitational All-Tournament team on Saturday, earning her first all-tournament honor. Hilley put up 116 assists on the weekend, averaging 12.89 assists per set and helping the sixth-ranked Badgers post 3-0 wins over Syracuse, Arkansas and Kansas State.
With Hilley running the offense, UW hit .433 on the weekend. The Badgers were over .400 all three matches, including a season-high .449 (46 kills – 11 errors – 78 attempts) against Syracuse on Sept. 1.
The Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, native had a career-high four service aces against Syracuse, averaging 0.44 aces per set. Hilley added 2.00 digs and 0.67 blocks per set.
An active attacker, Hilley was error-free in hitting on the weekend, including a perfect 3-0-3 against K-State. She hit .500 (5– 0-10) on the weekend.
Wisconsin (5-0) returns home for the fourth-annual HotelRED Invitational Thursday through Saturday in the UW Field House. The Badgers take on Lipscomb (4-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Texas A&M (2-2) on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Bison and Aggies face each other on Friday at 6 p.m. All matches are in the UW Field House.
