‘Swish Upon A Cure’ set for Oct. 16
September 26, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Student event formerly named ‘Shooting Down Cancer’ returns for sixth year
MADISON, Wis. – New name, same great event.
One of the most successful fundraising student events on campus returns on Monday, Oct. 16, but under a different name. UW men's basketball coach Greg Gard and his wife, Michelle, are excited to host "Swish Upon A Cure," the fun, philanthropic event that has become an annual rite of passage to the opening of college basketball season in Madison.
Formerly known as "Shooting Down Cancer," the renamed event, "Swish Upon A Cure" has raised a staggering total of $1,116,757 in its first five years.
Now it's your turn to increase that number. "Swish Upon A Cure" will take place from 3-6 p.m. (CT) at the Kohl Center and is open to all UW-Madison students.
The premise of the charity event is simple: students come to the Kohl Center and take a shot at Gard's wallet. For starters, Greg and Michelle Gard will donate $1 to the Garding Against Cancer charity for every UW-Madison student that simply walks into the Kohl Center. Students are then given an opportunity to knock down shots to increase the donation. For a made free throw, $5 is donated and for every half-court shot another $500 is donated.
Plus, there will be an opportunity to meet Coach Gard and the team, receive free Under Armour t-shirts, food and Gatorade beverages while supplies last, prizes, giveaways and more.
"Swish Upon A Cure" is proud to partner with XO1 and Grand Central, Homecoming and Colleges Against Cancer for this exciting event. Participating students should enter through Gate B of the Kohl Center and will also have the opportunity to pick up their Grateful Red student season ticket vouchers.
See you on Oct. 16 to join our fight against cancer!
