Avyanna Young begins professional career in Finland

Forward signs with Vimpelin Veto

MADISON, Wis. – Former Badger Avyanna Young will begin her professional career with Vimpelin Veto in Vimpeli, Finland, this fall. The 6-2 forward will depart for Finland on Sept. 1 and begin training with the team.

"It does not seem real that I am going to Finland to continue doing the thing I love the most," Young said. "I'm really excited and blessed to be starting this new journey and will miss everyone back home.

"Making new memories, growing as a person and a player, and experiencing a new culture at the same time is like a dream come true!"

Young played two seasons at Wisconsin after transferring. The Milwaukee native played in 56 games, starting 48 at UW. She averaged 9.6 points and 6.6 rebounds with the Badgers. As a senior, she earned honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference honors after averaging 11.7 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds per game.

Vimpelin Veto plays in the Finnish League, competing in the SM-sarja, the top league in the country. Games are scheduled from October through March 2018. The team was 12-15 in 2016-17

Young joins former Badgers Jolene Anderson, Nicole Bauman, Rae Lin D'Alie, Michala Johnson, Cassie Rochel, Dakota Whyte, and Taylor Wurtz who are currently playing professionally.
