Transfer from North Carolina has one year of eligibility remaining
MADISON, Wis. – Lexi Harkins, who played the last three seasons at North Carolina, will join the Wisconsin women's golf team this fall for her senior season, UW head coach Todd Oehrlein announced. Harkins played in 33 tournaments for the Tar Heels and owns a 75.35 career scoring average. She is eligible to play for the Badgers immediately.
"We are really excited to have Lexi join us this fall," Oehrlein said. "She is a very talented student-athlete and she will be a great addition to our team this year."
Last year, Harkins was UNC's top finisher at the NCAA championships, tying for 24th place overall. North Carolina placed ninth as a team, its best finish since 2011. That was one of Harkins' six top-25 finishes on the season. She owned the third-best scoring average on the team at 74.67 strokes per round. For her career, she has recorded 14 rounds under par and shot a career-best 68 in the third round of the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Harkins' best career finish came when she placed sixth at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational as a junior, finishing the tournament at +1. She also tied for 11th at the 2015 ACC Championships as a freshman, pacing UNC. While at North Carolina, the Tar Heels qualified for NCAA regional play all three of Harkins' seasons and advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of the past two years.
A native of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Harkins has been named an All-American Scholar (minimum 3.50 grade point average) by the Women's Golf Coaches Association three times.
