MADISON, Wis. – The Big Ten announced on Wednesday that Wisconsin seniors
Vitto Brown (men's basketball) and
Sydney McKibbon (women's hockey) were named the school's Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2016-17 academic year.
One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Brown capped his fine career by starting all 37 games and averaging 8.3 points per game for Wisconsin's 2017 Sweet 16 team. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Brown played in 120 games over the course of his career, helping UW win 115 games over the last four seasons, equaling the highest four-year win total in school history.
McKibbon served as team captain of the Badgers' in 2016-17, appearing in all 40 games and scoring 32 points. Over her distinguished career, the two-time WCHA All-Academic selection played in 156 games and tallied 110 points (37 goals, 19 assists).
